Questions (665)

Andrew Doyle

Question:

665. Deputy Andrew Doyle asked the Minister for Health if a scheme or mechanism is in place by either his Department or the Health Service Executive so that used foldable walkers, walking sticks and crutches from previous patients are made available for new patients, with sterilisation to ensure that their reuse is to the proper standard; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that such a scheme or mechanism would allow for significant saving for the Exchequer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In relation to the particular query raised by the Deputy, as this is a service issue, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond directly to the Deputy in this matter.
