Deputy Brendan Griffin asked the Minister for Finance if he will retain VAT at 9% for labour intensive services and tourism related services; if he recognises the considerable success of the reduction in VAT for such services in 2011; if he recognises that the State has benefited enormously from the provision of employment, the generation of extra economic activity and a reduction of pressures on the social protection system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Any proposal to maintain the 9% VAT rate for tourism related services will be considered in the context of Budget 2014.
