434. Deputy Michael P. Kitt asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the position regarding the flood relief programme on the Clare River at Claregalway, County Galway; the amount of funding for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [37819/13]
View answerThe Claregalway Flood Relief Scheme is at an advanced stage of development. A Public Exhibition of the proposed flood relief measures was held in late 2012 and stakeholders were afforded an opportunity to send in their observations on the scheme proposals. The observations received, some of which were quite detailed, have been considered and addressed where appropriate. The scheme, which is expected to cost in the region of €7 million, will be submitted to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform for Confirmation (i.e. statutory approval) in the next few weeks and it is expected that construction will commence later this year, subject to approval being given by the Minister.
