892. Deputy Jim Daly asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the total cost of all media advertising to his Department for each of the past five years; the efforts his Department is making to ensure that local media, both print and radio, are being supported as well as national media by his Department's budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The table reflects the reconfiguration of my Department announced in March 2011 with the transfer of heritage functions to the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht and the transfer into my Department of a range of Community functions.

My Department carries out public awareness campaigns as the need arises. The use of national and or local media outlets is dependent on the nature of the matter to be communicated. Local media outlets are used where and when it is appropriate to do so.
