Michael Moynihan

Question:

249. Deputy Michael Moynihan asked the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the reason participants in the Tús community work placement initiative are not eligible for the better energy warmer homes scheme; his views on whether this could act as a disincentive for persons to take up placements with Tús; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The administration of the TÚS community work placement scheme is a matter for the Minister for Social Protection. However, I am not aware of any criteria that would impede participants in the TÚS scheme from accessing the Better Energy Warmer Homes scheme, as long as the eligibility criteria of the Better Energy Warmer Homes scheme are met.

The eligibility criteria of the scheme are as follows:

- Owner occupied non-Local Authority homes constructed before 2006, or

- The owner is in receipt of one of the following:

Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme,

Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age, or

Family Income Supplement.

If the Deputy is aware of a specific case, my Department would be happy to investigate the matter further.
