Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will provide details of each of the approvals he or his Department granted for breaching the public pay cap over each of the past three years together with details of the posts concerned; the salary approved; and the basis on which each such approval was given. View answerIn June 2011, I introduced a general pay cap of €250,000 for Chief Executive Officers of Commercial State Companies but acknowledged that the CEO of the ESB would be paid a higher amount given the importance of the role. The CEO of ESB was appointed subsequently at an annual salary of €295,00 which represented a reduction of 43% in the maximum of the scale that applied to the previous incumbent of the post. I also introduced at that time an annual salary cap of €200,000 for future Senior Public Service Appointments. No approvals have been issued for appointments in excess of these pay caps.
