Question:

161. Deputy Michael McGrath asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if he will, in respect of his Department's audit committee, provide details of its current membership; the date of appointment of each member; the fees paid to each member; if members of the committee are required to hold certain professional qualifications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The members of the Audit Committee of my Department are fully independent and work on a voluntary basis. The Audit Committee operates under a charter approved by the Secretary General. The charter requires that at least two members of the Committee will be qualified accountants and some members will have professional experience in the area of development cooperation and the evaluation of aid programmes. The Committee usually meets at least six times a year.

The current members are:

Dr Richard Boyle - appointed in January 2008 - Chairman with effect from July 2013. He is Head of Research, Publishing and Corporate Relations with the Institute of Public Administration.

Mr Donal Corcoran - appointed in July 2010 – is a retired management consultant.

Mr Aidan Eames - appointed in July 2010 – is a solicitor in private practice.

Mr Jim Gillespie - appointed: July 2011 - is a chartered accountant and a former partner in Ernst and Young.

Ms Emer Daly - appointed in March 2012 -is a chartered accountant and a company director.
