As the Deputy will be aware, Government approval was received on 19 November 2013 for the publication of the General Scheme of a new Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 and to proceed with the drafting of the legislation based on this General Scheme. I can confirm that relevant sections of the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 will be subject to notification under Directive 98/34/EC, which will be submitted when the Bill has reached final draft stage.
