My Department has not developed any specific applications for smart phones and other multi media devices to date. All users of Departmental smart phones are provided with access to email, calendar and contacts. The responsibility for day to day operational matters, which would include IT developments, rests with the respective CEO - Registrar of the relevant agency.

GPs have full electronic visibility of the medical card panel of patients available to them. They can identify clients that may not be expected to complete the standard renewal process, which requires a reasonable level of administrative competence, or clients without recourse to friends/family to assist with the standard renewal. GPs have the facility to electronically allow temporary extension of eligibility for expiring cards, where this sensitive renewal is appropriate.

The HSE National Audiology Review Group (NARG) Report, published in April 2011, identified some inconsistencies and shortcomings in audiology services around the country, including unacceptable waiting times, and made recommendations to address these issues. An Audiology Clinical Care Programme has been put in place under the Clinical Strategy and Programmes Directorate and the implementation of the recommendations of the National Audiology Review Group are being progressed. The HSE has been asked to examine the specific query raised by the Deputy concerning services in Co. Laois and to reply to him as soon as possible.
