136. Deputy Tom Fleming asked the Minister for Social Protection if she will expedite a living alone allowance appeal in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry, taking into consideration the findings of the Ombudsman; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7243/14]
View answerI am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that the file of the person concerned was received from the Office of the Ombudsman on 07th February 2014. The appeal in question has been referred to the Appeals Officer dealing with this case. The Appeals Officer will be in contact with the person concerned as soon as the review of her appeal has been finalised.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
