238. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport further to Parliamentary Question No. 288 of 13 February 2014, if he will provide a breakdown on an annual basis since the introduction of the penalty points system of the number of drivers who have obtained the maximum 12 penalty points in each of those years; the number of drivers who have obtained the maximum number of penalty points in each of those years but their disqualification from driving is pending; and the number of disqualified drivers who received the maximum number of penalty points each year from 2002 who were provisional licence holders or learner drivers. All drivers referred to under the 1961 Road Traffic Act, although pending, are already serving non-penalty points related disqualifications under Part III of that Act.

The remainder of drivers pending from 2008-2013 do not have current driving licences and are therefore not eligible to drive on our roads.

However, the 17 licences pending for 2014 are currently undergoing the statutory 28 day countdown period before disqualification commences.
