212. Deputy Brian Stanley asked the Minister for Health the amount paid in compensation for each year from 2010 to 2013 to the families of babies born with cerebral palsy. [8459/14]
View answerThe management of clinical negligence cases taken against the HSE is delegated to the State Claims Agency which has a statutory mandate to investigate and manage these cases to completion. The information requested by the Deputy concerning the amounts paid in compensation for each year from 2010 to 2013 to the families of babies born with cerebral palsy is not readily available. Accordingly, I have asked the State Claims Agency to collate the information and it will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it is available.
213. Deputy Brian Stanley asked the Minister for Health the progress made in securing funding and developing plans for a new maternity unit in Portlaoise hospital, County Laois. [8461/14]
View answerLast year, provision was included in the Capital Plan 2013-2017 to appoint a design team to review the development control plan for Portlaoise Midland Regional Hospital and plan the next stage of development. The proposed project includes a medical assessment unit, theatre department, HSSD, refurbishment of vacated accommodation to expand day services, a main concourse and a replacement maternity unit.
As with all capital projects this project must be considered within the overall capital envelope available to the health service. There will always be more construction projects than can be funded by the Exchequer. The method and timescale for the delivery of health care infrastructure is a dynamic process which is constantly evolving to take account of changing circumstances, including the feasibility of implementation. There is limited funding available for new projects over the period 2014-2018 given the level of commitments and the costs to completion already in place.
214. Deputy Brian Stanley asked the Minister for Health the stage the process is at regarding the examination of consultations on Abbeyleix hospital; and if the assessment of the documents and recommendations have been forwarded to his Department. [8462/14]
View answerAs the Deputy is aware the Health Service Executive was asked to re-examine all of the available relevant information with a view to finalising a recommendation in relation to both St. Brigid's Hospital, Shaen and Abbeyleix Community Nursing Unit. The Department awaits the HSE response and an announcement will be made as soon as possible once the Minister receives the HSE’s definitive position.
215. Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for Health the position regarding a mobility allowance in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8465/14]
View answerThe individual referred to by the Deputy made enquiries of the Health Service Executive regarding the payment of her mobility allowance at 8.11am on the 12th February and the Health Service Executive responded to her query at 1.26pm the same day explaining that the delay in the payment reaching her bank account was not an error on the Health Service Executive’s part, but as a result of a change to banking as part of the new Single European Payment Area arrangements. She was advised to contact her bank as it was not an issue the HSE had the power to resolve on her behalf. In my view, and I am sure the Deputy will agree, the HSE responded to this personal query in an efficient and timely manner given the urgency expressed by the individual in relation to her payment.
216. Deputy Billy Timmins asked the Minister for Health the position regarding the criteria for the new scheme for leave of absence for Health Service Executive workers; if district health nurses can qualify for leave of absence under this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8469/14]
View answerAs this is a service matter it has been referred to the Health Service Executive for direct reply.

View answerAs this is a service matter, the Deputy's further question has been forwarded to the HSE for direct response. I understand that the HSE wrote to the Deputy on 27th January last following his earlier query.
218. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Health the position regarding an occupational therapist appointment in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8474/14]
View answerAs the particular issue raised by the Deputy relates to an individual case, this is a service matter for the Health Service Executive. Accordingly, I have arranged for the question to be referred to the HSE for direct reply to the Deputy.
