755. Deputy Timmy Dooley asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will provide a breakdown into categories of the number of incidents which occurred on the Luas red and green lines in 2011, 2012 and 2013; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9598/14]

My Department receives details of notifications made in respect of accidents/incidents that relate to railway safety within the context of the Railway Safety Act 2005.

With regard to trams running on the Luas Red line:

Four incidents were notified in 2011, two involved contact with a motor vehicle and two involved contact with a pedestrian.

Five incidents were notified in 2012, three involved contact with a motor vehicle and two involved contact with a pedestrian.

Ten incidents were notified in 2013, two involved contact with a motor vehicle,  three involved contact with a pedestrian, one with a pedal cyclist and four related to LUAS technical faults or operating incidents.

With regard to trams running on the Luas Green Line:

Two incidents were notified in 2011 and each involved contact with a pedestrian.  No incident was notified in 2012. One incident was notified in 2013 and it involved contact with a vehicle.
