1268. Deputy Michael Lowry asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reasons for the excessive delay in processing a learner's permit licence application in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Offaly; his views on whether such a delay is justified; if he will ensure that this application is processed and the licence granted without any further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The operation of the National Driver Licensing Service is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority, and I have no role in relation to individual cases.  I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
