Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the way advice on stopping distances as contained in much road safety documentation has been determined; the publications or research relied upon to determine minimum stopping distances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The collection, analysis and publication of information on road safety issues, including stopping distances is the responsibility of the Road Safety Authority.  I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
