Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the course of action in criminal law that is available to a person who is the victim of a crime but the Garda and DPP have not brought criminal proceedings against the perpetrator of that crime; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerAs the Deputy will be aware responsibility for the bringing of prosecutions is a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that the DPP is entirely independent in carrying out her functions as provided in the Prosecution of Offences Act 1974. As Minister for Justice and Equality, I have no role with respect to reviewing the decision to prosecute in any given criminal case, or in providing legal advice on such matters. However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy I might direct her to the information published by the DDP, including information on procedures which may be relevant to the matters referred to, which is available on www.dppireland.ie.
