Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if he will set out in tabular form the number of proposed merger transactions examined by the Competition Authority in each year since 2003; the number that the authority has prevented from proceeding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. It should be noted that a proportion of the mergers cleared to be put into effect were subject to conditions, specified by the Competition Authority, being complied with. Over the same period, 3,284 merger notifications were made to the European Commission and of those 0.18% were not allowed to be put into effect.
