The Cross Border Operational Forum comprises of senior fraud managers from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom. The Forum’s remit is to ensure that effective co-operation takes place at an operational level to prevent and detect fraud between the three jurisdictions. Case by case co-operation takes place between fraud investigators from all three jurisdictions. The Forum does not record the outcome of cases investigated by individual officers.

In 2013, approximately 4,500 checks were carried out by the Department of Social Development (DSD) Northern Ireland on behalf of the Department of Social Protection (DSP) and 2,942 checks were carried out by the DSP on behalf of the DSD. However, it is important to note that these cases may be in order when checked and, therefore, may not be an indicator of fraud.
