Data on those who died of a heart attack who did not have prior symptoms or treatment for heart disease are not available.

Data on persons who died of a heart attack here in each of the past ten years as a result of a second or subsequent heart attack are not routinely available. However, the CSO have advised that between 1 and 5 people per year between 2007 and 2013 have died from an infarction of any myocardial site, occurring within 4 weeks (28 days) from onset of a previous infarction (ICD 10 Code I22).

The Department of Health’s “Changing Cardiovascular Health: Cardiovascular Health Policy 2010 -2019” was launched in 2010. The policy establishes a framework for the prevention, detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, which seeks to ensure an integrated and quality assured approach in their management, so as to reduce the burden of these conditions.
