Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Health the position regarding children who are placed on the orthodontic treatment waiting list when they are in school who do not receive their treatment before the required age of 16 years; if they have to go private where the State does not meet or provide the treatment within the timescale provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe HSE provides orthodontic treatment to those who have been assessed and referred for treatment before their 16th birthday. An individual's access to orthodontic treatment is determined against a set of clinical guidelines called the Modified Index of Treatment Need. Patients with the greatest level of need are provided with treatment by the HSE. Patients who are placed on a waiting list are treated, irrespective of their age.
