Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health if his attention been drawn to the fact that St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, has decided to suspend life-saving gastric bypass operations for dangerously obese public patients; the exact number of patients that are on the waiting list for this surgery; the number of patients on the outpatient list to see a specialist; the reasons this surgery has been suspended; the way he plans to deal with the patients waiting for surgery and outpatients; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
