Questions (620)

Maureen O'Sullivan

Question:

620. Deputy Maureen O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if she will consider taking on board an amnesty similar, but to a lesser degree, to that given by the Czech President Václav Klaus in 2013, where he granted amnesty to a third of his country's prisoners to mark 20 years of the Czech Republic's independence; if the Government will consider such a gesture having devised their own criteria of who would be eligible, in honour of the 1916 commemorations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I can advise the Deputy that the Government has no plans to introduce such an amnesty here.
