128. Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of small schools that have sought to avail of the appeal criteria in respect of small schools, for the retention of a teacher; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30384/14]
View answer30 small schools were due to lose a classroom post in September 2014 as a result of the final phase of the Budget 2012 measure. 2 of these schools are closing, 1 is amalgamating and, following the appeals process, the number of schools losing is now reduced to 12 schools. Additionally, there are 48 small schools with a reduction in enrolments which means they are due to lose a teacher in September, 2014 as a result of the earlier phases of Budget 2012 measures. Following the appeals process this figure of 48 is reduced to 27 schools losing a post. The final position on the overall staffing will not be known until the Autumn when actual enrolments are confirmed.
