Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Defence if he will provide in tabular form a breakdown of all third level courses, training programmes and courses provided for employees of his Department, and the accompanying cost, for the 2013-14 academic year, from 1 September 2013 to the end of June 2014. The Third Level Courses figure relates to Refund of Fees. Refund of Fees are approved under the terms of the Department of Finance circular whereby Officers undertake courses of study in their own time at recognised third level institutions. Courses are currently funded by my Department in the areas of Business Studies, Training and Education, Project Management, Policy Analysis, Payroll Management and Public Management. Training Programmes and Courses in my Department include Health and Safety in the Workplace, Legislative Process, Administrative Law, Information Technology Training, Soft Skills training and Financial Management. My Department is committed to Training and Development, and is at all times conscious of maximising value for money.
