644. Deputy Eoin Ó Broin asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government the annual general funding allocation paid to Longford and Westmeath county councils in each of the years 2012 to 2017, in tabular form. [4462/18]
View answerI assume the Question refers to the payment of General Purpose Grants (GPGs) and Local Property Tax (LPT) from the Local Government Fund to local authorities. Before the introduction of local retention of LPT in 2015, GPGs were my Department’s contribution towards meeting the cost to local authorities of providing a reasonable level of services to their customers. The 2014 figures recognise the removal of water related costs and are therefore not directly comparable to previous years’ funding. In 2015 GPGs were replaced by LPT payments.
