152. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if Ireland approved the process by which the new secretary general of the European Commission was appointed; the reason there was not an open competition for this position; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The appointment of officials of the Commission is solely a matter for the Commission itself and Member States have no role in this process.
