Broughan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if Ireland approved the process by which the new secretary general of the European Commission was appointed; the reason there was not an open competition for this position; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The appointment of officials of the Commission is solely a matter for the Commission itself and Member States have no role in this process.
