583. Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection when illness benefit arrears owing to a person (details supplied) will issue; the reason these arrears arose in view of the fact that all medical certificates were submitted; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Illness Benefit claim for the person concerned is now certified and paid up to 12th November 2018 and any arrears due will issue to him shortly.

If the customer remains ill and unfit for work, a further medical certificate should be submitted to the Department as soon as possible in order for further payments to issue.

I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
