679. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if an illness benefit back payment will be issued to a person (details supplied) without further delay. [50666/18]
View answerThe Department administers the Illness Benefit scheme to those customers who cannot work because they are sick or ill provided they are covered by the appropriate class of social insurance (PRSI) and satisfy the PRSI conditions.
The person concerned claimed Illness Benefit from the 15th January 2018 to the 19th June 2018 and, although she did not meet the PRSI contribution qualifying conditions on her Irish PRSI contribution record, she subsequently qualified on her contribution record from her employment in Jersey. I understand from my Department that to get a record from another state takes time which added to the delay in this case.
The Illness Benefit claim for the person concerned has been paid in full.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
