Deputy Ruth Coppinger asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection further to Parliamentary Question No. 620 of 23 October 2018, if she will report on the implementation of the review of the Gender Recognition Act 2015 and the proposed legislative changes envisaged in that report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The current position is that officials from my Department are still considering the recommendations of the report of the Review Group, and how they can best be progressed, in conjunction with relevant Government Departments.

I intend to come back to Government early this year seeking approval to legislate, based on the outcome of these discussions and consultation with the Attorney General; and to lay my own report on the review before the Houses of the Oireachtas.
