271. Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if legislation will be introduced to provide for domestic homicide reviews as has been introduced in the UK under section 9 of the Domestic Violence, Crimes and Victims Act 2004. [5090/19]
View answerI have been advised by the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána that the Garda National Protective Services Bureau (GNPSB) has introduced a process whereby specific homicide incidents, which are believed to have involved domestic violence, are the subject of review. The purpose of each review is to establish lessons which can be learned from examining the circumstances of an incident, in order to inform the updating of current Garda Síochána policy on domestic violence.
While there are no plans to amend the law at this time, the matter is being kept under review, including assessing the UK experience, as referred to by the Deputy.
