200. Deputy Kevin O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment if he will consider placing a moratorium on the development of windfarms until guidelines are in place. [8522/19]
View answerAll developments, including windfarms, are subject to the rigours of the planning system. Revisions to the Wind Energy Development Guidelines are currently being progressed by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. These will be subject to a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and public consultation by that Department, which will ensure that environmental considerations are fully integrated into the revised Guidelines. It is expected that the revisions to the Guidelines will be finalised and come into effect during 2019 following the completion of the SEA process.
