The voids programme provides additional support to local authorities in preparing vacant social homes for re-letting, particularly homes that would likely remain vacant for a significant period of time because of the cost of the works required.  The programme assists local authorities in actively targeting such vacant properties, to minimise their turnaround and re-let times and return them to use in an energy efficient condition.

The number of local authority dwellings that were brought back to productive use during 2018, with funding provided through the voids programme, is set out in the following Table.  My Department did not issue funding allocations to each local authority; instead the funding was drawn down as local authorities undertook the remediation works.
