173. Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to discuss the provision of permanent lighting at the airstrip at Cluain Leacht on Abba, near Cleggan in Connemara with the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to assist the night time landing of Coast Guard and medivac ambulances there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the Coast Guard has not received any such request.  The Coast Guard, through CHC, provides for patient transfers  and other aeromedical support services to the HSE National Ambulance Service (NAS) on an ‘as available’ on request basis.
