620. Deputy Willie O'Dea asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the current expenditure on the free travel scheme; the estimated cost of increasing expenditure by 10%; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25117/19]
View answerBudget 2019 increased funding for the Free Travel Scheme by €5 million, from €90 million to €95 million. The Budget measures was provided to meet increased numbers eligible for the scheme and consequent increased claims from service providers, and to encourage new operators into the scheme to give better coverage in remote parts of rural Ireland.
The cost of increasing expenditure by 10% would be €9.5 million.
