672. Deputy Mary Butler asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the discretionary road grants provided through Transport Infrastructure Ireland to individual local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26636/19]
View answerThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of the relevant local authority in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from the Council's own resources supplemented by State road grants. Each local authority is the contracting authority for the purpose of implementation of regional and local road improvement projects.
While payments in respect of regional and local road grants are processed on TII's payment system sign-off on all such payments is provided by the Department.
