2697. Deputy Shane Cassells asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the expenditure incurred in respect of external legal fees in each year since March 2011, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32281/19]

The Department incurs expenditure on costs associated with legal cases from Vote 37 Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection and the Social Insurance Fund.

Costs relating to prosecutions arising from fraudulent claims made to the Department are borne by the Chief States Solicitors Office.

The following table sets out the amount paid by the Department for external legal services for the period 1 March 2011 to date:
