The person concerned is receiving a weekly Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance payment (BASI) for their family. As a qualifying condition of receiving BASI, the person concerned must satisfy a means test. Most Social Welfare payments are assessed as means. This includes the half-rate Carers Allowance payment the spouse of the person concerned is receiving.

This amount has been deducted from the person concerned’s weekly payment from 4 July 2019. The reasons for the overpayment will be communicated to the person concerned in writing within the next 10 working days.

I trust this clarifies matters for the Deputy.
