23. Deputy John Curran asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if she will include the full Christmas bonus in the budget of her Department rather than the current situation in which it is part of a Supplementary Estimate (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. The payment of a Christmas bonus is a discretionary decision made by the Government in the context of the annual Budget process and available resources.

As is the case every year, a decision to pay the bonus at Budget time each year takes into account the current fiscal position and the achievement of our overall fiscal targets.
