53. Deputy Jonathan O'Brien asked the Minister for Finance if VAT can be reduced on bicycles to 13.5% or 9%; the estimated associated cost with such a change; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38919/19]
View answerI am advised by Revenue that the VAT rating of goods and services is subject to EU VAT law, with which Irish VAT law must comply. In accordance with the VAT Directive the supply of bicycles is liable to VAT at the standard rate, currently 23%. It is not possible under Annex III of the VAT Directive to apply a reduced VAT rate to bicycles.
