Deputy Tony McLoughlin asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will introduce a system in which persons with a travel pass can book seats on Irish Rail trains in view of the fact the current system is leading to situations whereby sick and elderly persons are left standing long distances on trains; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The issue raised is a matter for Iarnród Éireann and I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply.
