Deputy Willie O'Dea asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of persons participating in a community employment programme; the number aged 55 years and over participating in such programmes in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department provides a range of activation supports catering for long-term unemployed jobseekers and those most distant from the labour market to secure and sustain full-time paid employment. The table below shows the number of participants currently engaged on Community Employment schemes and the number of those that are aged over 55.
