35. Deputy John Curran asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the progress made to date to legislate for the use of e-scooters in view of the fact that the public consultation period for the use of e-scooters has closed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [48178/19]
View answerAs the Deputy is aware, the public consultation on e-scooters and other forms of powered personal transporters closed on 1st November. My Department received more than 500 submissions and officials are currently going through them with the aim of producing a report. I have been informed that this report will be submitted to me for my consideration next month. I will not be making any decision on whether or not to amend road traffic law to regulate for the use of such vehicles until after I have given full consideration to the report.
In the meantime, the use of e-scooters and other powered personal transporters on public roads or in public places will remain strictly prohibited.
