The Sports Capital Programme (SCP) is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and physical recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment throughout the country. Grants are available to sports clubs, voluntary and community groups, national governing bodies of sport, and local authorities. Third level colleges, Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and schools may also apply for funding jointly with sports clubs or organisations.

Full information on the programme, including how to register is available at

The final allocations under the 2018 round of the SCP were announced last month. My Department will soon be undertaking a full review of all aspects of the 2018 SCP. Part of the review will include consideration of the timing and scale of the next round of the Programme but I expect that the SCP will be open for applications again in the coming months.

In relation to other grants, Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards. This includes the allocation of funding across its various programmes, including the Core Funding Programme and High Performance Programme. Sport Ireland channels its funding through the National Governing Bodies of Sport and does not provide direct funding to clubs. Accordingly, individual sports clubs should make enquiries with the relevant National Governing Body for their sport in relation to any funding that might be available to assist affiliated clubs.
