The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is one of a number of measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland under the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 Rural Regeneration and Development Programme. The Scheme is administered by the Local Authorities on behalf of my Department.
Under the 2018 Town and Village Scheme, 224 projects were selected for funding of €21.3 million in October 2018. On 31st October 2019, I announced details of a further 156 projects which I approved for funding of almost €15 million under the 2019 Scheme.
Tables 1 and 2 at the link outline the funding that was approved for each Local Authority in 2018 and 2019 respectively under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, and the amount that has been paid out to date as a percentage of the amount allocated. Payments are made when projects meet certain milestones.
Given the nature of the projects delivered under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, it is expected that the projects approved in 2019 will not be completed, in the main, until 2021. The remaining projects approved under the 2018 scheme are expected to be finalised during 2020.
