Deputy Sorca Clarke asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if a meeting was planned for early 2020 with those proposing a Hong Kong style, independent, municipality here; if the meeting was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions; and if so, if it has been rescheduled for a later date. View answerEarly in 2020, an initial approach was made to my Department by a Hong Kong-based consortium exploring the feasibility of a potential large-scale urban development.
The potential development is at a preliminary conceptual stage and it is understood that the consortium has spoken to contacts in a number of jurisdictions.
The promoters were encouraged to carry out more research on how their ideas might fit an Irish context. No arrangements were made for official meetings in Ireland.
