Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of companies that have notified her Department of redundancies since March 2020; the number of redundancies arising from those notifications; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Section 12 of the Protection of Employment Act 1977 provides that employers proposing a collective redundancy must notify the Minister of the proposed collective redundancy.

My Department monitors that the legislative requirements for consultation and notification of potential redundancies to the Minister are complied with.

I am advised that it is not possible to confirm if the actual number of redundancies occurring will correlate to that advised to me as Minister as a potential redundancy.
