Deputy Patrick Costello asked the Minister for Defence if the commission on the Defence Forces will be ready by the end of 2020 as agreed in the Programme for Partnership Government; if he will provide a detailed timeline for its establishment and work and the details of its membership; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe Programme for Government provides for the establishment of an independent Commission on the Defence Forces.
The Commission is to be established before the end of this year, with a mandate to report within twelve months. Planning for the Commission is in the early stages and no final decisions have yet been taken to date on its terms of reference and membership.
I am working to ensure that the Commission is established as early as possible before the end of this year.
