View answerSection 6(3) of the Employment Equality Acts 1998 to 2015, allows for the imposition of a compulsory retirement age but it must be objectively and reasonably justified by a legitimate aim and the means of achieving that aim must be appropriate and necessary. This aim may be specific to the nature of the work involved and could include health and safety concerns.
If an individual has concerns that they have been discriminated against on grounds of age then they can make a complaint to the Workplace Relations Commission.
