I wish to inform the Deputy that the Agriculture Appeals Office operates independently of my Department.

I have been advised, however, that the records of the Agriculture Appeals Office indicate that a request for a review of an Appeals Officer's decision was received in the Appeals Office from the person named in February 2020.

The review of the Appeals Officer's decision, which legally may only be undertaken by the Director of Agriculture Appeals, will establish if the Appeals Officer made an error of fact or law in that decision. Requests for reviews are generally dealt with in order of receipt. There are currently a number of requests for reviews that were received prior to the request concerned.

At the moment, it is not possible to give a precise timeframe for completion of the review but I am advised that every effort is being made to finalise the case as soon as possible.
