Deputy Catherine Connolly asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons taken into wardship in 2019 and 2020 for brain injury, dementia, age-related illness, psychiatric illness and other reasons; the number of persons under 18 years of age taken into wardship in 2019 and 2020, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The High Court has jurisdiction in wards of court matters and management of the courts is the responsibility of the Courts Service, which is independent in exercising its functions under the Courts Service Act 1998. 

However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy, I have had enquiries made to the Courts Service who have responded with the following:
